Nuclear Medicine Technologist at MidState Medical Center in
Meriden.
Position Schedule: 4 days/week Mon-Fri, with alternating day off on
Wed, Thur, or Fri (schedule is flexible) + on-call and holiday

offers competitive starting compensation based on qualifications
and experience. The compensation range for this position is between
$33.00 and $59.00 per hour.
Job Summary: Operates nuclear detection and imaging equipment and
prepares radiopharmaceuticals for nuclear radiologic studies by
following professional and departmental protocols to provide the
physician diagnostic images and/or plan appropriate treatment for
the patient's condition. Follows established policies and
procedures set by the department, hospital, state, NRC, TJC, OSHA,
and standard practices of Society of Nuclear Medicine.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to
established procedures for preparation of kits and IV injection of
agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging in order to
assist the radiologist in diagnosis and treatment.
- Assesses the appropriateness of requested exams by using
pre-established guidelines for exam ordering to ensure that the
exam is performed accurately the first time.
- Operates nuclear detection, imaging, and computer processing
equipment for nuclear radiologic studies by following professional,
hospital, and departmental protocols to provide the physician with
diagnostic images to identify and/or plan appropriate treatment for
the patient's condition.
- Performs periodic quality control tests on imaging, Hot Lab
equipment, and radiopharmaceuticals by checking equipment
performance and quality of agents administered in accordance with
department standards to ensure the integrity of the system and
patient safety.
- Adheres to standards for radiation safety and for appropriate
waste separation and disposal of radioactive agents by performing
specific tasks mandated by the NRC in order to maintain compliance
with NRC licenser regulations.
- Maintains the Nuclear Medicine equipment in good operating
order. Clean and disinfect equipment and area after each use.
Maintains work area in an orderly manner. Reports any hazardous
conditions or equipment breakdowns to supervisor.
- Demonstrates yearly competencies, including knowledge and
behaviors, to conduct examinations and meet the needs of patients
with regard to the patient's age, condition or other special
requirements.
- Documents pertinent patient and exam information and stores
computerized images onto an archive media for future reference or
retrieval.
- Routinely prepare examination for interpretation by the
radiologist to include correct identification and processing. Set
up films properly in PACs system. Accurately inputs data in the RIS
by tracking actual procedure in order to capture all charges and
other relevant information.
- Possess computer skills appropriate to meet departmental needs
in preparation of reports and correspondence.
- Works effectively as a team member within the department and
with other units to provide quality service through communication,
cooperation and collaboration.
- Provides clinical supervision and instruction to students by
maintaining and understanding of policies, procedures, and the
clinical competency process (in order to evaluate student growth
and competence in performing radiographic procedures).

essential functions of the job. Qualifications Guidelines:Education
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Registered with American Registry of Radiological Technologists
(ARRT) and/or
- The Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board
(NMTCB)
- CPR certification may be required.
- Maintenance of continuing education credits as required by
licensure.
- Required CT State License within 12 months of hire date.
- Individual exceptions may apply only under the discretion of
the Medical and Administrative DirectorDesirable:
- At least one year's experience as a nuclear medicine
technologist
- Associates or Applied Science Degree in related
field.Knowledge:
- Working knowledge applicable to nuclear medicine technology
with specific references to anatomy, medical and surgical disease,
and scientific principles as applied to nuclear medicine
technology.
- Patient care standards and requirements.
- Quality assurance principles and practices.
- Customer service principles and practices.
- NRC principles and practices.
- OSHA principles and practices.
- TJC standards of practice.Skills/Abilities:
- Operate Nuclear Medicine equipment.
- Schedule, organize and monitor patient flow to meet company

- Communicate effectively with patients, relatives, medical staff
and co-workers.
- Venipuncture certificate.
- Maintain the confidentiality of patient records.
- Schedule, organize and complete work in accordance with
required workloads.
- Read, interpret and follow internal quality standards and
government regulations.
- Understand and follow specifications and instructions.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
- Capable of maintaining basic life support (CPR).Special
Conditions:May be required to rotate on night, weekend and/or
holiday call schedule.May be required to cover ancillary offices,
as needed.OSHA Class 1 exposure to Bloodborne Pathogens.May involve
