Job Description SummaryAs a RN ICU Nurse at South Shore Health, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality patient care in a fast-paced ICU environment. You will utilize the nursing process to assess, plan, provide, and evaluate patient care, ensuring that patients receive the best possible outcomes.Key Responsibilities:1. Medication Administration
a. Follow SSH policies and procedures for administering, transcribing, and recording medications.
b. Complete medication reconciliation process following SSH policy and procedure.
c. Document narcotic withdrawal, administration, and verify count, waste per policy and resolve narcotic discrepancy.
2. Plan of Care/Documentation/Patient Family Centered Care/Patient Experience
a. Develop, discuss, and communicate a prioritized problem list/plan of care for each patient.
b. Initiate admission assessment within 8 hours of admissions, identify and document patient/family/significant other teaching needs upon admission and throughout hospitalization.
c. Continues assessment/reassessment and identifies care needs within established nursing practice.
d. Document all patient care following the department of nursing policy, unit based standards, disease processes, and nurse sensitive indicators.
3. Safety/Quality - Foster's a Culture of Safety
a. Verify patient identification with two identifiers prior to the start of any invasive procedure, including time out, administration of care, medications, labeled specimen's and document confirming the correct patient, procedure, site, equipment and consent.
b. Comply with CDC hand hygiene guidelines through proper handwashing, adhere to universal precautions, make appropriate use of personal protective equipment at all times, and appropriately dispose of hazardous materials.
4. Professional Development
a. Obtain at least 5 contact hours per year in area of practice.
b. Practice within the legal boundaries of MA Nurse Practice Act, direct other licenses and non-licensed personnel as assigned.
5. Technology
a. Access Lotus Notes to review email, learning management and other resources as applicable to RN role.
6. Compliance
a. Work within legal, regulatory and ethical standards relevant to the position.
7. Patient and Family Centered Care
a. Convey respect for values, preferences, and expressed needs of the patient and family.
8. Age & Culture
a. Possess age and cultural knowledge and awareness.
RequirementsPrevious Acute Care RN experience preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification, Emergency Response Training Certification, Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Certification, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC), Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) Certification may be required.
